Who Are the Best Candidates for an IPL Photofacial?
IPL is typically for very fair complexed individual eg Skin type I II or III who had a lot of sun damage in their life so they are concerned with redness in their skin or brown discoloration.
What Should a Patient Expect?
It is fast treatment 15-30 min, mild discomfort, and minimal or no down time. Skin being treated should not have recent direct sun exposure, natural or artificial tan. The area is cleansed, gel applied on the treatment area the device comes in contact with skin through gel and light is pulsed. A slight sunburn like feeling remains for 1-2 days, sometimes swelling and redness for 4-5 days for aggressively treated area. The brown spots gradually get darker, superficial and ultimately peel off. During the time of the healing skin is to be protected form son, avoid retinoic acid 1 week prior and post treatment. The area should be kept moisturized.
How many session are needed and how often the treatment should be done?
The treatment could be repeated every 4 weeks, the number of sessions needed depends upon the amount of damage generally it is about 3-4 sessions, then maintenance is about 3 times a year.
