What is Cryolipolysis or “Fat Freezing”?
It is a method to permanently reduce fat cells from a targeted area by using cold to damage the fat cells. These damaged fat cells die in a natural process called ‘apoptosis’ and eliminated from the body. The cold is provided via plates on suction probes which are applied on the targeted area. The skin is covered by specialized ‘gel pads’ which protects the skin from direct effect of the cold. The external temp is brought down close to 0 to -6 degree centigrade which keeps internal effective temperature of less than 4 degree centigrade.
Which areas in the body could be treated with Cryolipolysis?
Stubborn areas of fat store in the body could be targeted, the treatment is commonly used for ‘love handles’, ‘lower belly pooch’, inner thighs, outer thighs, buttocks, side of the chest or fold around the bra strap, triceps area in the arms, double chin.
We have large, medium and small size probes, at any time 2 probes could be used together, the areas are properly assessed and a combination of the probes that would fit the area are used.
Am I the candidate?
Anyone who is willing for noninvasive method for body sculpting, want to target spot fat reduction is a candidate. There are very few contraindications for this procedure. In our clinic Dr. Keswani carefully assess clients for these medical conditions.
Is there any downtime?
No downtime, you can go right back to work.
What is the actual process of the treatment?
The treatment area is undressed, careful measurements are done including pictures as needed. The area is mapped, and appropriate size of probe is selected. Gel pads are applied on the treatment area and the probe is applied. The suction in the probe will pull the desired area which will encounter cooling plates via gel pads. Just enough suction is applied stabilize the probes on the desired area. This suction and cooling are maintained form 40-50 mins, when probes are removed. The treated area is vigorously massaged to enhance the effect. Following a treatment, you may experience minor discomfort, swelling, and redness. There is also a chance that this technique will temporarily lighten or darken the skin around the treated area. Fortunately, changes in the skin like crusting, blistering, and scarring rarely occur. Sometimes, patients notice slight bumpiness at the site where the hair resided but that only lasts for one to two days.
What is actual client experience, is this painful?
The treatment is not perceived as painful. Most of the clients during the treatment either surf the internet, watch videos or listen to music, some even fall asleep.
What are the immediate after effects, can I work out, go to work, any precautions and long-term effects?
The targeted area gets red, sometimes bruising may be noticed, more noticed in thin skin. Most of it improves in the next couple of hours but some people take a couple of days. Most people go to work immediately and can work out as well. Slight numbness may be felt the same day and sometimes may last for 1-2 weeks.
How many treatments are needed for best visible results?
Most clients need between 3-5 treatments spaced out 4-6 weeks apart. Clients must maintain weight to see best results. People who lose weight during the follow up time will need less treatments, vice versa who gain weight will need more treatments for ‘visible’ results.
